Why is it necessary to learn how to play guitar scales?  If you want to be an all around guitarist you should learn the scales if you want to learn how to improvise and use and understand chords.  Not only that you will learn to understand the fretboard and how to use it.  Your fingers will gain strength and dexterity by learning how to play guitar.  You may even incorporate various styles of music with different scales you master, either in your own compositions and improvisations.

If you are just a beginner, be patient.  Don’t be critical of yourself and expect to sound like an expert professional.  Most of the professional guitarists have played for years and for hours a day, because learning the guitar is a true passion.  There’s no easy way to play guitar scales, but that’s OK!  If you have a private teacher and want to learn a basic scale ask your guitar teacher.    For example, the notes of the C scale  is:  C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. The chord will be the 1st degree, C, the third degree, E, and the fifth degree, G.
